People living in Luton took a step back in time to explore what life was like during the First World War and the impact it had on people living in Luton at the time.

A volunteer programme provided volunteers with general knowledge of the First World War. They carried out research projects that enabled them to become familiar with the use of sources. This research also helped the volunteers to develop IT skills as they digitised material, artefacts and documents.

Educational sessions created teaching materials for schools. An exhibition held at Wardown Park Museum showcased the stories of local residents during the First World War.

Collections workshops and volunteers gathered memories from local people to develop an oral history archive which could be accessed online.

This was a highly successful project which captured the imaginations of young and old, bringing to life the lives of the people of Luton who fought, survived and died during the Great War.
