Rediscovering the Antonine Wall

Inclusion

Inclusion

Heritage has a crucial role to play in contributing to a more equal society.

What is inclusion?

We believe everyone should be able to to benefit from our funding, regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, faith, class or income.

What do we expect?

All projects must achieve our Inclusion outcome.

We want to see every project taking steps to reach out to new people, to share heritage beyond their organisation, and to embed inclusive practice as far as they can.

In planning your project, think about how you can create opportunities for a wider range of people to be involved, perhaps as:

  • volunteers
  • mentors
  • trainees
  • governors
  • participants
  • visitors
  • part of your workforce

Project ideas

  • RSPB Minsmere put accessibility at the heart of their development: find out more on this video
  • The Race Through the Generations project saw young people in Bristol share ideas about racial heritage through digital storytelling
  • The History of Place project told the stories of deaf and disabled people through a website, workshops, exhibitions and games
  • LGBT volunteers at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum helped curate an exhibition
  • Our young Heritage Ambassadors - the Dustkickers - organised an event to explore how young people can get involved in heritage
