Virtual Reality and Museums Session

The 1866 Oaks Colliery experience

Friday 9 December, 2-5pm

Experience Barnsley (Town Hall, Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2TA)

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Oaks Colliery Disaster, the worst in English history. The Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership and Barnsley Museums are curating an exhibition about the disaster at Experience Barnsley (opens on 30th November 2016).

As part of the exhibition a local artist, Alan Andrews from the ART of Mining, has recreated the 1866 Oaks Colliery in stunning virtual reality. VR has huge potential in the museum and heritage sector and as the technology become more affordable the interest is increasing.

This is an opportunity for museum and heritage professionals to experience VR first hand in a museum context, discover how the technology works and to ask questions.

The session will be in the Learning Lab of Experience Barnsley on Friday 9 December, 2-5pm. If you would like more information or to book your free place please contact Stephen Miller, 01226 773110 or stephenmiller@barnsley.gov.uk
