There is a new Government Consultation on the availability of Changing Places toilets in public spaces, including art spaces, museums and other cultural centres such as faith centres and concert halls:
Key points of the consultation (deadline is 21 July 2019):
· All new builds and majorly refurbished large public spaces must have @CP_Consortium toilets.
· This will include #museums over 300k visitors, their extensions, new builds and refurbishments.
· Reasonable provision would need to be given to provide a Changing Places in a listed building. Building control groups/bodies would decide if it was not reasonable.
The consultation paper is available via https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-public-buildings-to-have-changing-places-toilets-for-severely-disabled-people
Lack of Changing Places facilities in museums and cultural venues affects approximately 250,000 people, who often drastically reduce food and drink in order to get out of the house. Children are changed on toilet floors to visit museums and their cultural heritage. Information on what Changing Places toilets are http://www.changing-places.org
