With the growing importance of social media how do you promote your park or open space? If local authority owned and managed are you restricted to just the council's own web pages? Or does your park have its own web site? I know many of the HLF grant funded parks actively use Facebook to promote events and activities. Some friends groups manage these on behalf of their park. Social media is an easy way to learn about your audience and user profile. Does your park use Twitter ? I know myself from my recent introduction to twitter how rewarding topical posts and images can be. I think far too few parks share or promote their good practice. Parks all over the world have been discovering the ways social media can contribute to their success and profile due to the unique characteristics of social media: openness, participation, and sharing. this is our latest web site for the Friends of Priory Park, funded by HLF. The group will receive training in Word Press delivered by Community First Partnership. Which will allow them to manage the content of the site themselves.
Several of our other groups will also be able to get similar training and would like to up grade their web sites so they can manage them, rather than get an expensive provider to do the work for them. We would also encourage our Friends to use social media, some are better than others, again we will be looking to improve skills through training and development.
We do have restrictions from the local authority coms teams which is slowly starting to lift, so hopefully the Parks team will be able to use the same tools as the volunteer teams before long.
